April and the beginning of May are the main period when maize is sown in agricultural fields. The recommended sowing period generally falls between 15 April and 5 May. Every farmer knows that maize seeds, especially when they begin to swell and germinate, are particularly attractive to wild boars. These animals can travel considerable distances to reach freshly sown maize fields and feed on the seeds. They are capable of causing extensive damage to crops, making wild boar damage a serious problem for farmers. For this reason, farmers often start thinking about how to protect their fields from wild boars even before sowing.

To paraphrase a classic saying, "Everyone knows what a chicken looks like" – but not all chickens are the same. There are many different chicken breeds available, and the various commercial lines and hybrids can make choosing the right birds particularly confusing for beginners. In this article, we would therefore like to introduce people who are just starting their adventure with poultry keeping to the general classification and characteristics of the chicken breeds most commonly found in Poland.
