Description

Drobshell GRIT crushed sea shells for poultry in a fine 1–2 mm fraction, supplied in a 2.5 kg pack. Crushed sea shells are a completely natural source of calcium and essential minerals that support the health and development of backyard poultry. Drobshell Grit supports the digestive and skeletal systems of laying hens, broilers, ducks, turkeys, geese, pheasants and quail.

The crushed shells support digestion by helping birds mechanically grind feed in the gizzard, contributing to improved nutrient absorption. The naturally high calcium content supports strong eggshell formation, healthy bones and good production performance. The fine 1–2 mm fraction makes this natural poultry feed supplement suitable for chicks, quail, young pullets and adult chickens.

Why use crushed sea shells for chickens?

Drobshell calcium grit for chicks and quail 1–2 mm
  • Natural source of calcium and minerals – produced from specially processed mussel and oyster shells,
  • Supports strong eggshells – calcium is essential for normal eggshell formation and helps hens produce hard, durable shells,
  • Supports egg production and egg quality – the minerals contained in crushed shells contribute to laying performance and good-quality eggs,
  • Supports digestion – fine mineral grit helps mechanically grind feed inside the bird’s gizzard,
  • Supports improved absorption of nutrients from poultry feed,
  • Helps maintain a healthy skeletal system in poultry,
  • Fine 1–2 mm fraction – suitable for chicks, young pullets and small poultry species such as quail and partridges, as well as adult birds,
  • Easy to administer – crushed sea shells can be offered separately or mixed directly with feed.

Crushed sea shells for chicks and quail – properties

Drobshell GRIT crushed sea shells are supplied as a fine mineral grit containing valuable nutrients, including sodium, phosphorus and calcium carbonate. They can be mixed with complete feed or provided in a separate feeder, allowing birds to consume the calcium poultry grit according to their individual requirements.

The presence of fine grit in the bird’s gizzard helps mechanically crush and grind the consumed feed. This supports digestion, improves the action of digestive juices and contributes to better absorption of nutrients. Crushed oyster shells help supplement calcium deficiencies, support normal skeletal development, reduce the risk of calcium-related bone problems and contribute to the formation of hard, strong eggshells.

How often should crushed shells be given to poultry?

Crushed shells for chickens are a valuable feed supplement for every backyard poultry flock. They can be provided in a separate container with free access, allowing birds to regulate their own calcium intake. Hens often consume more calcium during periods of intensive egg production.

When mixing the shells directly with feed, the recommended amount is 50 g per 1 kg of feed. The shells are best offered in the afternoon or evening because laying hens use calcium during the night to form strong eggshells. It is worth monitoring consumption: if hens eat large quantities of crushed shells, this may indicate an increased calcium requirement.
